We have identified some users with an issue printing Crystal Reports post the Microsoft Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

This may result in an error message:

"This application was unable to open the report. Please ensure that you have a default printer installed."

Medilink may also hang or crash at this point.

This problem means that you will not be able to print reports. For example, the Appointment List report or History report, or even invoices if you use the Crystal Report style invoices/receipts.

This does not affect all users. It may only affect certain computers in your office (i.e. you may be able to print reports from a different computer).

Our own in-house testing of this Windows Update has not experienced the same problem.

We believe it may be to do with specific printer drivers, although at this stage the full scope and details are unknown.

If you are affected, (for example if you receive the above error message and/or notice Medilink crashing much more frequently post the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update), our advice is to roll back the Windows Update. When/if we can confirm an alternate workaround we will do so.

Please note that Medilink Support is unable to uninstall Windows Updates for you. They should be handled by your system administrator (i.e. your local IT support). That said, the instructions are fairly straightforward (see below, although note that we take no responsibility for this):

  1. Go to Start > Settings (cog icon).
  2. Click on Update & Security.
  3. Click the Recovery link on the left.
  4. Click Go back to the previous version of Windows 10 -> Get started.
